The risk of infibulation
What is infibulation?
It is the practice of removing the clitoris and labia of a girl or woman and sewing the edges of the vulva to prevent sexual intercourse. It is the complete shaving of the vagina and the sewing to prevent the girl from having sexual relations.
The vagina is sealed, leaving a small hole so the girl can menstruate or urinate.
The girl's legs are tied with rope for days so the wound can heal. The wound usually takes between 15 and 40 days to heal. During this period, the girl's legs remain tied and she cannot move.
Basically, the stitches are made so that the husband can open them again on the wedding night so that he can have intimate relations with her. Imagine someone opens the stitches and immediately has sex with her.
Imagine the pain, I mean intense pain!!!
Imagine the traumatic experience, the pain that the girl will suffer.
Isn't it better to let her decide whether to marry a virgin or not than to do that?
When giving birth, many women need a repeat excision because the opening of the vagina is too small for the baby to pass through.
It also causes urinary infections in women, fistulas and infertility, etc.
THE WORST THING IS THAT WOMEN DO THIS IN AFRICA!!! I think this is where feminism should start.
This is what African feminists should be fighting for and not about who should wash the dishes or cook the food or other irrelevant issues.
For your information, this is still practiced in some parts of Africa until now.
According to research, it was also practiced in North America, Australia and New Zealand.
It's heartbreaking
Girls do not deserve this abuse for being girls.
And the most curious thing is that no ideological movement has tried to raise this issue or even talk about it.
