Hitler thought that the Jews were responsible for Germany's defeat, not the cause of WWI.

What happened in 1919, some sort of belief that Germany did not really lose WWI in the battlefield, but were betrayed back home by civilians, mainly Jews, Marxists, and Bolsheviks. It was called it the “Dolchstoßlegende” or Stab in the Back (Myth).

Hitler blamed the Jews for the fall of the Monarch and the ruin of Germany. He also blamed the Jews for communist influences in Germany.

What is ironic about that is more than 100.000 Jews fought for Germany in WWI side by side with Hitler. Roughly 12.000 Jews died for the Fatherland. What is more ironic is that Hitler’s commanding officer Leutnant Hugo Gutmann a Jewish German Officer recommended Hitler for the rare Iron Cross First Class, which Hitler wore to the end of his life.
