July is the birth month of the Roman general and statesman Julius Caesar, who successfully led the Roman armies in the Gallic Wars.
"Gallic" here refers to Gaul, which is comprised of present-day France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and parts of Germany.
Julius Caesar reigned from 49 BC to 44 BC. To honour him, his month of birth, which was formerly known as Quintilis, which used to be the 5th month in the Roman calendar, was replaced with his name, Julius, i.e., July.
Furthermore, the Julian calendar, which replaced the present Gregorian calendar, was also named after him.
You must have realized that the month of the year, the days of the week, and the planet, including the earth, are named after Oyibo deities and human heroes.
As Oyibo is doing everything he can to preserve his history and culture in the sense that no matter how fast the world develops, they cannot be erased, many of our own people still believe in the 21st century that the more they distance themselves from their culture and history, the more civilized they become.
The worst of it all is to see Africans who have no African surname or who cannot speak any African language. What baffles me about such people is to see that they do not even care.
Those who know their past will always understand their present and can easily peep into their future.
As we begin the second half of the year today, may God strengthen us in body and mind to overcome every adversity that we are battling with right now, both as a people and as individuals. Happy new month!
